GENERAL PURPOSEThe purpose of this position is to assist the Meat Manager with keeping the meat department running properly and profitably. This person will be responsible for knowing all aspects of the meat department and being able to fill in for any position when necessary, training new meat department associates, all while providing exceptional customer service. This person will also assist in determining production and inventory levels for the meat department.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESFollows established departmental and store policies and proceduresEnsures the quality and freshness of all products and services the meat department providesResponsible for maintaining the appropriate product assortment and inventory levels for the meat departmentConfirms pricing accuracy and signage for all products, paying particular attention to ad itemsEnsures the meat department is cleaned and sanitized daily and meets the company standards for appearanceDeliver excellent customer service to all customersActive member of the Safety Committee which helps insure the safety of both Customers and AssociatesIs knowledgeable about all cuts of beef, pork, chicken, turkey, seafood, etc. and is able to cut all meatsGrinds fresh hamburger and sausagePerforms the following duties alongside the Meat Manager or in the Meat Manager’s absence:Ordering product and creating production sheets to meet the needs of the meat department based on past and projected salesCompletes assigned tasks efficiently and in a timely mannerSets a professional and positive example to othersCommunicates openly and frequently with Store Director and Fresh Meat Sales DirectorEnsures company standards for safety, sanitation and productivity are maintained.Writing the meat department schedule to ensure coverage and meet labor goalsTeaches, mentors and educates meat department associates to help them be successful members of the teamProvides honest, direct and constant feedback to meat department associates regarding their performance and areas of improvementQuarterly inventory of all meat department productsMARGINAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms other job-related duties as assignedNATURE OF WORK CONTACTSConsistent and daily interaction with store associatesConsistent and daily interaction with customersTRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
